Social Media
I have a strong skillset and professional experience with social media, including content creation, events promotion, calendar management and measuring audience analytics.
Social Media Management – Minnesota Department of Natural Resources
As Communications Outreach Specialist with the Minnesota DNR, I was responsible for managing the social media presence of a statewide conservation program, Minnesota Scientific and Natural Areas (SNAs). I made it my goal to improve the quality of posted content, increase audience engagement, and develop ongoing campaigns to provide educational and promotional material for the program.
During the first nine months of managing the Minnesota SNAs Facebook account, I increased cumulative reach by 246%, from 248k accounts reached in 2023, to 1.3 million in 2024.
Campaign: #SNAWordOfTheDay
Ecology is full of interesting technical terms, so I created these posts to celebrate the unique vocabulary of the life sciences. I conducted research and corresponded with technical experts at the DNR to build accessible definitions, and used the program’s photo library and Adobe Photoshop to develop eye-catching infographics.
The results? Weekly, eye-catching and educational content.
Campaign: SNA Road Trips
The Minnesota’s DNR audience responds especially well to travel content. I created themed road trip ideas to inspire educational travel experiences, from silly word-play, to journeys rooted in geological history.
The results? 615k+ accounts reached.
Bogs vs. Fens – exploring Minnesota’s wetlands with an infographic
Minnesota is home to more peatlands than any other state in the lower 48. Much of Minnesota’s pristine wetlands are protected as SNAs. The problem? There are many different types of wetlands, and the differences between them can be complex and opaque. I researched the definitions of bogs and fens, and distilled the information into a digestible infographic. Using Adobe Photoshop and some vintage aerial photos, I created this eye-catching infographic.
The results? 49,613 accounts reached (and educated)
Reading bedrock maps with the Minnesota Geological Survey
In August 2024, the Scientific and Natural Areas program opened a new natural area, Icelandite Coastal Fen SNA. Beyond the rare plants and natural communities found there, this site is especially unique for it’s geology, and who better else to collaborate with to promote the site than the Minnesota Geological Survey? I connected with outreach managers at MGS to use their infographics, reformat them in the DNR style, and share their information with our audience.
